For the fourth time in the last five years, Macalester has a team in the field at the American Mock Trial Association’s national championship tournament. More than 600 teams begin the school year hoping to become one of the 48 teams that advance to the national championships. Regional qualifying tournaments reduce the field to 192 teams that compete at one of eight Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) sites. Qualifying from the Regional Tournament after winning a seven way tie gave Mac a chance to be one of the 24 teams competing at the Anoka County Court House in Anoka, MN. Twenty four teams started the tournament and only six advanced to the championship in Cincinnati. As a result of rounds against Washburn, Cal Berkeley, and Bradley, Mac was one of the six from Anoka to earn a bid to Cincinnati.
Mac came out of the tournament with a record of 6 wins and 2 losses and is now beginning to prepare for nationals.
Team 1022, captained by seniors Brett Campbell, Elliott Averett, Li Guan, and Hannah Brown is comprised of Haotian Wang, Liza Michaeli, Alex Klopp, MJ Carpio, Colin Casey, and Rachel Crane.
